Turkish Cypriot side demands special treatment for Turkish nationals

The Turkish Cypriot side has asked for special treatment of Turkish nationals in Cyprus, as discussions during the second day of the Conference on Cyprus continue, under UN auspices, at the ski resort of Crans Montana, in Switzerland.

Reliable sources have said that during Thursday’s morning discussion at Table 2 on the issues of territory, property and governance between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, there was a general discussion on these three issues, with the Turkish Cypriot side raising an issue of special treatment for Turks in Cyprus.

Negotiators and experts will meet at 1630 and at 1800 the Conference on Cyprus will resume.

Tomorrow, Friday, the discussions on the three issues will resume in the presence of the two leaders and at 1030 the Conference on Cyprus will open in the presence of SG Antonio Guterres, who arrives here on Friday.

The Conference on Cyprus, being held under the auspices of the United Nations, started on Wednesday morning at Le Regent Congress Centre in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, with a view to reaching a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
