Turkey’s illegal actions in the Cyprus’ EEZ at the center of the Greek National Council on Foreign Affairs

The Greek National Council on Foreign Affairs was convened on Wednesday, June 26, to discuss the recent developments regarding Turkey’s illegal actions in the Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Greek-Turkish relations.

The National Council on Foreign Policy is an advisory body to the government which examines matters relating to Greek foreign policy strategic planning, giving parliamentary parties an opportunity for in-depth briefings by the government on latest developments, as well as for an exchange of views on matters on the agenda.

Greek Foreign Minister chaired the meeting and briefed the opposition parties on the recent decisions of the European Council for targeted measures against Turkey, if the latter insists in its illegal actions.

According to the announcement issued by the Greek Foreign Ministry the meeting of the National Council on Foreign Affairs was held in a spirit of national agreement regarding the need for further specification of the European Council’s measures against Turkey.

During the meeting, Greek Foreign Minister presented in detail the diplomatic initiatives, taken by the Greek government, in close collaboration with the Republic of Cyprus, for the protection of the national interests of Greece and Cyprus.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Katrougalos expressed the view that the recent decisions of the European Council regarding Turkish illegal actions, and the integration of this specific matter in the US-Turkey relations agenda, are the product of Greece’s and Cyprus’ coordinated diplomatic initiatives.
