Turkey the most important obstacle for the solution of Cyprus problem says House President

President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris, said on Sunday that the most important obstacle for the solution of the Cyprus problem is Turkey, which is causing constant disagreements, divergences and deadlocks.

Speaking during a memorial service in Kakopetria village, Sylllouris pointed out that, Ankara with its stance regarding the Cyprus issue and Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, as well as towards Syria, confirmed that it has long-standing imperialist attitudes and expansive aspirations.

Turkey, said Syllouris, is provocatively continuing to completely ignore regulations, conventions, European and international law, the law of the sea, as well as the UN resolutions. He added that the country is behaving without any will for understanding and constructive dialogue, violating the law and human freedoms.

“And unfortunately, we have to negotiate with this Turkey and claim our acquired and inalienable rights, he said. He also said that Turkey, is hiding behind the Turkish Cypriots, using them for its conquering aspirations and has substantially eliminated them through its actions.

He also said that a solution to the Cyprus’ problem would pave the way for the growth and prosperity of the country, the modernization of the institutions, the elimination of corruption and malpractice, and the construction of a state law and equality.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The latest round of UN-peace talks at the Swiss resort of Crans – Montana ended without an agreement. Talks held under the auspices of the UN aim at reunifying Cyprus under a federal roof.
