Tourist arrivals hit record high in November

Arrivals of tourists reached 158.685 in November 2018 compared with 144.676 in November 2017, recording an increase of 9.7%, on the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, the Statistical Service said on Monday.

November 2018 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month, Cystat announced.

It added that between January � November 2018 arrivals of tourists stood at 3.832.062 from 3.553.149 in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 7.8% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first eleven months of the year.

Tourist arrivals from Greece were up by 14.2% compared with November 2017 while tourists from Germany increased by 19.0%. Tourist arrivals from the UK and Russia declined by 2.4% and 0.2% respectively.

The United Kingdom was the main source of tourists in the eleventh month of the year, representing 31.5% of total arrivals, while Russia represented 13.5%, Greece represented 9.8% and Germany 9.7%.

A percentage of 70.0% of tourists said they the purpose of their trip was holidays, 15.6% to visit friends and relatives and 14.3% for business.

The Passengers Survey showed that 93.023 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in November 2018 compared to 94.796 in the same month last year, a decrease of 1.9%.

November saw a decrease of 6.2% in the trips of residents to Greece (32.974 in November 2018 compared to 35.143 in November 2017) and an increase of 1.0% in the trips of residents to the United Kingdom (15.341 compared to 15.184 last year).
