Three-day sea trial of Prometheas very positive development, sources note

The successful completion of the three-day sea trial of the Cyprus LNG terminal project's Floating Storage and Regasification Unit "ETYFA PROMETHEAS" ship, managed by China National Petroleum Corporation, (CNPC CPP), is a 'very positive development," sources told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

The sources confirmed the statement of CNPC CPP on social media, that the LNG terminal will be delivered by the end of September and constitutes the largest part of the natural gas liquefaction terminal at the Vasilikos Energy Center. The onshore terminal is expected to be completed by mid-July 2024.

The sources emphasised that this specific event is a very positive development because, although the project is not fully completed, the major part of it, which is the vessel, will be delivered.

According to the same sources, the Cypriot side is expecting an invitation to travel to China to take delivery of the floating unit.

The CNPC CPP described the end of the sea trial mission an 'incredible achievement'.

It added that 'this groundbreaking accomplishment not only signifies the company's expertise but also bridges the gap in domestic MOSS-type LNG-FSRU transformation. Congrats on this remarkable milestone'.
