Third phase of “Nostos-The Return” programme to take place in Australia, Presidential Commissioner tells CNA

Presidential Commissioner PhotisPhotiou has told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the third phase of the Nostos � The Return programme implemented in the framework of the trilateral cooperation among Cyprus, Greece and Egypt on diaspora issues, will take place in Australia at the end of March, with the participation of the three countries’ diasporas.

The details of organizing Nostos 3 and the agenda of the event will be discussed during a Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on diaspora issues that will take place in Cairo on January 10 with the participation of Photiou, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Greeks abroad Terens Quick and Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram.

Photiou told CNA that Nostos 3 will take place in Australia since the three countries’ diasporas have a strong presence there and it has been a request of the organisations of their diasporas.

The Presidential Commissioner said that he, Quick and Makram will discuss in detail, on January 10, about this event, while they will also review the two previous phases of the programme, Nostos 1 and Nostos 2.

Moreover, he noted that they will also discuss other issues regarding the trilateral cooperation of the three countries on diaspora issues, as a round table discussion to be organised, probably in Cyprus, with the participation of leaders of the three countries’ diasporas and perhaps of officials dealing with delicate issues in the region.

Photiou said that the aim of this round table discussion will be to look into the role of the diasporas in promoting the three countries’ interests in fields such as security in the region, addressing terrorism, and energy.

He noted that they will discuss about a visit to the three countries, during the summer, of a group of young members of their diasporas.

The Commissioner underlined that the cooperation of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt on diaspora issues is implemented successfully, there is a great interest from their diasporas in many countries to come closer, and this is why the ‘Nostos’ programme is being further promoted.
