There was a shimmer of hope in the morning which was subsequently overturned, Anastasiades says

The was a shimmer of hope in the morning which was subsequently overturned, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades told journalists during his departure from the conference centre in Crans-Montana Switzerland where the Conference on Cyprus is taking place .

In his statements after the conclusion of the morning session of the Conference, and asked if the shimmer of hope concerns a change of the Turkish positions on the guarantor/intervention rights and the issue of security, Anastasiades expressed hope that they will align “with what the Secretary General has asked from all of us”,

“For the time being the dialogue has ended. It will resume in the afternoon at 1830,” he noted. Asked if they are satisfied, Anastasiades said that there was a shimmer of hope in the morning which was subsequently overturned, expressing hope that things will become hopeful again in the afternoon.

UN facilitated peace talks began in Crans-Montana last Wednesday to help find a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
