There is no reason for concern due to the Turkish provocations, President assures

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has said that there is no reason for concern due to the Turkish provocations in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and expressed his satisfaction over the announcement of the preliminary results concerning “Calypso” target in the Cypriot EEZ.

Replying to a question on the sidelines of a ceremony for the inauguration of new wards at Athalassa psychiatric hospital in Nicosia about the peoples concerns over the situation, Anastasiades said that the government is dealing with the situation with a view to avert a crisis, that could create problems to the economy and the state in general.

The President did not wish to comment statements made by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on this issue.

Invited to comment statements by a spokesperson of Italian company ENI that “Calypso” target is estimated to contain 6-8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, Anastasiades expressed his satisfaction.

To a question about the Turkish provocations in the Cypriot EEZ, he expressed his dissatisfaction, noting that the government will take all actions it has to.

To a journalists remark that citizens are worried, Anastasiades said that no one should worry. “There is no reason for concern by anyone. We are dealing with this issue with a view to avert any crisis, that would create any problems either for the economy or the state,” he noted.

Italian energy giant ENIs drillship SAIPEM 12000 was halted on Saturday by a Turkish warships en route to a location within Block 3 of Cyprus’ EEZ.

ENI has announced that it made a lean gas discovery in Block 6 Offshore Cyprus with Calypso 1 NFW.
