The trade deficit recorded an increase at €5,7 bln for January – September 2022

The trade deficit was €5,669.5 in January – September 2022, compared to €4,077.6 mn in the corresponding period of 2021, according to the report published by the Statistical Service, titled “Intra & Extra EU Trade Statistics (by commodity and country)” for the first nine months of 2022.

According to the data, total imports of goods from EU Member States and from third countries in January – September 2022 amounted to €8,485.2 mn as compared to €6,267.6 mn in January – September 2021, recording an increase of 35.4%.

Total exports of goods for the same period were €2,815.7 mn compared to €2,190 mn in the first nine months of 2021, registering an increase of 28.6%.

The European Union was the main source of supply of goods to Cyprus with a share of €5,109 mn of total imports, while imports from all other European countries totalled €795.1 mn in January – September 2022. Imports from the rest of the world amounted to €2,581.1 mn.

Exports to the European Union accounted for €844.4 mn, while exports to all other European countries for €291.5 mn in January – September 2022. Exports to the rest of the world amounted to €1,679.8 mn.
