The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, paid a visit, late in the afternoon on January 24, 2017, to the headquarters of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), in Strasbourg, where he was welcomed by the President of the Court, Mr Guido Raimondi.

President Anastasiades and Mr Raimondi then held a meeting in the presence of the Cypriot Judge to the ECHR, Mr Georgios Serghides, during which Mr Raimondi briefed President Anastasiades on the work of the ECHR. He also made a reference to the small number of cases which concern the Republic of Cyprus and are examined by the ECHR, a fact that he characterized as positive, while he expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the Republic of Cyprus implements the decisions of the Court that affect the country.

On his part, the President of the Republic noted the great significance that the decisions of the ECHR enhance for the course of the Cyprus problem, but also for the efforts for its solution; and he briefed the President of the Court about the latest developments on the Cyprus problem.

Subsequently, the President of the Republic, who was accompanied by the Government Spokesman, was hosted by Mr Raimondi on a tour of the ECHR chambers.
