The President of the Republic sent a letter of condolence to the President of Italy

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, sent today 20 September 2016 a letter of condolence to the President of Italy, Mr Sergio Mattarella, for the passing away of former Prime Minister and President of the Republic of Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

In his letter the President states the following:

“It is with grief that I received the sad news regarding the passing of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, former Prime Minister and President of the Italian Republic.

He will be remembered as a great personality, a responsible politician whose life was entirely devoted in serving Italy, as well as promoting with passion the values of the European Union.

On behalf of my Government and the people of Cyprus, please allow me to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and the people of Italy and my sincerest condolences to the family of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.”
