The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, sent a congratulatory letter to the President of the State of Israel, Mr Reuven Rivlin, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence of the State of Israel.
In his letter the President of the Republic stated the following:
On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel, I take this opportunity to express, on behalf of the people of the Republic of Cyprus and myself, our heartfelt congratulations.
The ever growing partnership between Cyprus and Israel, based on our geographical proximity and our shared values, is considered to be of strategic value for both our countries, and at the same time, of acclaimed merit for our wider region which is in much need of stability and security.
Likewise the warmth exhibited by Cypriots and Israelis, based on the strong bonds that formed during the passage of the many thousands of Jewish Holocaust survivors from the island after WWII, manifests the genuine friendship that unites our peoples.
During its 69 years of existence, the State of Israel has indeed achieved remarkable progress in all fields of endeavor. We look upon your achievements with respect and, as a close neighbor and European partner, aspire to greater levels of cooperation.
In extending to you, dear Mr President, as well as to the friendly people of Israel our warmest wishes for the Anniversary of State Independence and a peaceful and prosperous year, I am assured that the strategic partnership between Cyprus and Israel will become even closer and stronger in the years to come.
