The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, has sent a letter of condolence to the President of Egypt, Mr Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, for the terrorist attacks in Egypt.

In his letter the President of the Republic stated the following:

“It is with profound shock and deep sorrow that I have received the news of the terrorist attacks against Coptic churches in Alexandria and Tanta, during the Palm Sunday service.

I condemn in the strongest possible terms criminal acts such as these against innocent people practicing their faith.

On behalf of the people and the government of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as on my own behalf, I would like to convey sincerest and deepest condolences to the government and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Our feelings of sympathy go in particular to the families of the victims and to the injured.

I take the opportunity to underline yet again Cyprus’ unequivocal support to the leadership and the people of Egypt in their fight against extremism and terrorism.”
