The President of the Republic participates in the Conference on Cyprus in Crans Montana

The proceedings of the Conference on Cyprus began at 10:30 this morning, June, 28, at the congress centre in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, arrived at the congress centre shortly after 10 a.m., accompanied by the Government Spokesman and Director of his Diplomatic Office, Mr Nikos Christodoulides.

The President was welcomed by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Mr Espen Barth Eide and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Cyprus, Mrs Elizabeth Spehar.

From the Greek Cypriot side, the interlocutor, Mr Andreas Mavroyiannis, the Deputy Minister to the President, Mr Vasilis Palmas, the Deputy Government Spokesman, Mr Viktoras Papadopoulos, and the members of the negotiating team also arrived at the congress centre.

Other participants in the Conference who made their way to the congress centre, were the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr Mustafa Akinci, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr Nikos Kotzias, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr Mevlut Cavusoglu, and the special envoy of the United Kingdom for the Cyprus problem, Mr Jonathan Allen.

The First Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr Frans Timmermans and the United Nations Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr Jeffrey Feltman, are also attending the Conference.

In response to a question upon his arrival at the congress centre as to his expectations from the Conference, the President of the Republic said that there is always hope.

Earlier this morning, the President of the Republic presided over a meeting of the National Council members that have accompanied the President to Switzerland.
