The President of the House of Representatives received the First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today the First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Mr Tobias BillstrAlm, and a delegation of MPs, Mr Lennart Axelsson, Mr Michael Svensson, Mr Richard Jomshof and Mrs Kerstin Nilsson. The delegation was accompanied by the Ambassador of Sweden in Lefkosia, Mrs Anna Olsson Vrang.

During the meeting, Mr BillstrAlm addressed an invitation to the President of the House of Representatives, on behalf of the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, to pay an official visit to Stockholm. Mr Syllouris accepted the invitation.

Then, the President of the House of Representatives referred to the Cyprus problem and briefed his interlocutor on the ongoing process for its solution, making special reference to Turkey’s intransigent positions.

Mr BillstrAlm referred to the long Swedish presence in UNFICYP’s mission, for which Mr Syllours expressed the gratitude of the Cyprus people. Mr BillstrAlm also highlighted the history of Cyprus, its archaeological wealth and their connection with Sweden’s archaeological missions in the beginning of the 20th century. Mr Syllouris stressed his desire to examine the best practices, implemented by Sweden in various fields, mainly in the field of health.

Finally, ways to further upgrade the parliamentary relations of the two countries were discussed.
