The period we are going through is extremely critical, said on Thursday Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides, adding that Turkish aggressive actions in Cyprus’ EEZ and the recent opening of a part of the fenced off area of Varosha show that Turkey is becoming more aggressive and unpredictable.
For this reason, he added, the National Guard must be at the highest level of alert.
Speaking in the framework of the Iris 2021 military manoeuvre at Kalo Horio village in Larnaca district, the Minister pointed out the high level of training, professionalism and morale of the cadres and soldiers.
