The Minister of Defence, Mr Christoforos Fokaidis, departs on Monday 26th September for Bratislava, in order to participate in the proceedings of the EU Defence Ministers meeting, which will be held on 26th and 27th September 2016.
The key topic of the meeting, which will be chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms Federica Mogherini, is a discussion on the implementation of the defence aspects of the EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy.
The discussion is of particular importance for the future of Europe as it is conducted at a critical period; terrorism, human trafficking, organized crime, internal instability in states of the European region and other asymmetric threats require a joint collective action to be taken by EU 28 Member States, in close cooperation with other international actors.
The Ministers are also set to hold talks on cooperation between the European Union and NATO. The Defence Ministers will also talk about missions and operations of the Common Security and Defence Policy.
