The 42nd Morphou anti-occupation march a reminder of the continuous struggle for return

“We will continue the struggle to guarantee the lawful rights of the people of Morphou, even if only a few dozens of them are left,” Morphou Mayor, Victoras Hadjiavraam said on Monday during a press conference in Nicosia, on the occasion of the 42nd anti-occupation march.

 

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Morphou is one of nine municipalities under Turkish occupation since 1974.

 

The Mayor and the Municipal Council presented the programme of the “Morphou Memory Days” events, which will conclude on Sunday morning, October 9, with the anti-occupation march, at Astromeritis village.

 

Among other things, he announced that an event on Saturday afternoon, October 8, British – Cypriot MP, Pambos Charalambous, will be proclaimed an honorary citizen of Morphou.

 

Mayor Hadjiavraam explained that the Municipal Council decided to honour Charalambous’ continuous contribution in promoting the Cyprus problem and the issues associated with Cypriot refugees as a result of the invasion.

 

Mayor Hadjiavraam invited everyone to participate in the march, in Astromeritis village, on October 9 and noted that “we will not cease to struggle for our rights, for the liberation of Cyprus from Turkish troops, for the repatriation of refugees and the reunification of our homeland, according to the resolutions of the UN.”
