Syllouris and Sobhi note role of cooperation in peace

The role the cooperation between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt in promoting peace and security in the region was pointed out during a meeting on Tuesday between President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris and Egyptian Minister of Defence, General Sedki Sobhi, who is visiting Cyprus.

Present at the meeting was Cypriot Minister of Defence Christoforos Fokaides, at the the invitation of whom General Sobhi is in Cyprus, Egyptian Ambassador in Nicosia Mai Taha Mohamed Khalil, and other officials.

During the meeting, a reference was made to the excellent relationship between the two countries and the need to further enhance parliamentary cooperation.

The role the cooperation between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt in promoting peace and security in the region was also pointed out. Syllouris referred especially to the role the Republic of Cyprus can play as a bridge between the EU and Egypt, and the Middle East.

Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, Syllouris expressed the will to enhance bilateral cooperation in all sectors, noting that Cyprus and Egypt can become fundamental pylons of peace and cooperation in the region, to the benefit of their peoples.

General Sobhi referred to the importance of his second visit to Cyprus, which reflects the will of both countries to further develop relations in various fields, including the military sector.
