Substantial discussions between Cyprus and Qatar on new prospects in bilateral relations

Substantial discussions on new prospects in bilateral relations were examined during the meeting Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides and Qatar’s Deputy PM and FM, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Doha.

In a post on Twitter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to the ‘warm welcome’ by Qatar’s Deputy PM.

The Ministry said Kasoulides and Al-Thani held “substantial discussions” on new prospects in bilateral relations and the “way forward #EU – #QA relations”.

They also held talks on Cyprus’ reunification process and addressed “regional and global challenges”.

Kasoulides will return to Cyprus on October 5.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
