Spokesman says he expects European Council’s support for Cyprus and Greece

Cyprus’ Government Spokesman Kyriacos Koushios said that he expects that the European Council will confirm his support for Cyprus and Greece, speaking to the press in Brussels.

As he said, in addition to its illegal actions in the maritime zones of the EU for which the EU has already taken concrete decisions, Ankaras new provocative actions in connection with the signing of the Turkey-Libya Memorandum of Understanding, violate the sovereign rights of third countries, as well as the law of the sea, and have no legal effects.

He also stated that the President of the Republic will address the issue, informing European leaders of the ongoing illegal drilling of Ankara in the Cypriot EEZ and expressing solidarity with Greece.

“We expect that there will be a clear position on the European Council, which confirms support for Cyprus and Greece. The leaders of our European family – as in the Conclusions adopted last March, June and October – will continue to convey the message that they are next to Cyprus and Greece, and that Turkeys illegal actions will not go unanswered”, the Spokesman stressed.

On the issue of Climate Change and the decision to move to EU climate neutrality by 2050, which will also be discussed during the Council, Spokesman said that Cyprus supports the achievement of this ambitious goal.
