“Social Media and Brand Week’ 19 Commences at EMU”

The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) 3rd Social Media and Brand Week organized by the Social Media Unit in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication commenced with opening speeches that were be delivered at 09:30 on Wednesday, the 3rd of April 2019 at the Mustafa Afsin Ersoy Hall.

In her opening speech, EMU Faculty of Communication Academic Staff Member / Institutional Communication and Social Media Coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Raziye Nevzat touched upon how the Social Media and Brand Week originated and relayed information about the program of this year’s event. Asst. Prof. Dr. Raziye Nevzat also thanked the sponsors and everyone who contributed to the event.

Touching upon the digitalization of communication and the effects of social media today, EMU Communication Faculty Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agah Gumus indicated that their faculty values social media in both their curriculum and activities. Stating that those participating in this event will obtain very valuable information, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gumus also thanked all involved in the organization of the event as well as the sponsors. EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuc Zorlu Ogurlu relayed her belief that Social Media and Brand Week will be very useful for all participants, noting that Institutional Communication and the Social Media Unit established in 2010 is doing a great job of bringing together students and social media as well as running the social media of the university. Prof. Dr. Ogurlu also highlighted the importance of events that bring together students and the sector. Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. H. Tanju Besler stated that the Social Media and Brand Week which is taking place for the third time this year has become a trademark of EMU noting that they will continue to fully support such organizations. Following, the opening speeches representatives of the sponsors; Turkish Airlines, Creditwest Bank, Lifecell and Cookies Bake Shop were presented plaques of appreciation by Prof. Dr. H. Tanju Besler.

After the opening speeches Reputation365.eu (Belgium) Digital Identity Management Consultant Denys Malengreau, Nexflix series ‘Protector’ Director Umut Aral, Akustikhane founder Namik Zafer Yilmaz, Innova Digital Founder Ali Tuzunkan, Beaz Kreatif Founder Umay Yilmaz, Slogan Institutional Founder Bertan GAlrus and Cypdes Factory Founder Selma Gurani shared their experiences with students.

The Presentations Will Continue on Thursday, the 4th of April 2019

Presentations will be also be taking place on Thursday, the 4th of April 2019, the second day of the event. The presentations to be delivered by Creditwest Bank CEO Mazher Zaheer, SP Branding and Management Founder Selin Persentili, Maxfield and Parrish,INC. Founder Eren Yagmuroglu, Political Campaign Managers Atif Muezzinler and Omer Yetkinel and Renault Mais Turkey CEO Dr. Berk Cagdas will be commencing at 10:00 at the Mustafa Afsin Ersoy Hall.

Focusing on the aspects of social media and marketing, the event previously hosted experts from Coca-Cola, Hepsiburada, Sony and Arcelik. This year’s event will host not only social media experts but also political campaign managers, digital identity managers and experts of platforms that appeal to masses such as Netflix and Akustikhane in order to follow digital trends and local consumer habits.

EMU Social Media and Brand Week’ 19 appeals to anyone interested in working or specializing in these fields as well as people who want to follow current sectoral developments as to identify fields that have future potential.
