Snow, rain, rockfall and fog continue to affect roads, police say

Roads in Cyprus, especially in the mountains, continue to be affected by snow, rain, rockfall and fog, the police have said, warning drivers to be extremely careful.

In a press release, the police say that due to rockfall in the old road between Akrounda and Dierona villages, the road is now closed for vehicles.

The road of Prodromos village to Troodos is closed due to snow, while the Tzelefos Bridge and the road between the villages of Kelokedara, Amargeti and Nata are closed due to flooding. The road between the villages of Milikouri – Platy – AyiosNicolaos is also closed due to flooding of the river Diarizos.

The road leading towards the village of Kouklia is also closed due to excessive water, as well as the road leading to the excursion area of Pera Vasa village, the road from Episkopi to Nata in Pafos district, as well as the Episkopibridge.

The roads of Platres to Troodos, Karvounas to Troodos, Pedoulas to Prodromos, Pedoulas, to Pinewood and Kakopetria, Prodromos to Platres,Platres to Trooditissa, Kakopetria to Prodromos, Prodromos to Troodos, Prodromos- Trooditissas – Platron, Pedoulas – Kykkos and Prodromos – Lemythou are only open for 4x4s and vehicles with snow chains.

These roads, the police warn, are icy and there are cleaning crews working to clear them.

The police press release also points out that due to rockfall the road between Prodromos village and Lemithou is dangerous.The roads of Platres – Moniatis, Paramythas – KaloChorio, Agros – AyiosIoannis, Agros – Handria, Kykkos – Kambos and Kambos – Orkondas are also dangerous due to rockfall.

Roads in the mountains are slippery while visibility is limited due to heavy fog.

Drivers are urged to be extremely careful, to drive at a low speed, to keep their distance from other vehicles and to have their headlights on.
