Secretary General returns to Crans-Montana for meetings with Cyprus Conference participants

The return of the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Crans-Montana today marks the eighth day of talks in the Swiss resort, as participants in the Conference on Cyprus continue deliberations for a Cyprus settlement.

The conference starts at 12.00pm Cyprus time (9.00am GMT) and according to the initial schedule, the morning session will last for about an hour until 13.00pm. Subsequently, Guterres will meet separately with the two leaders, with each meeting scheduled to last for half an hour.

The Secretary General will meet first with the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and later on with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

At 14.15 Cyprus time, the Secretary General with have a working lunch with the heads of the respective delegations attending the Conference. From 16.30 to 19.15 a number of bilateral meetings will take place between Guterres and all interested parties, namely the United Kingdom, Turkey and Greece. All meetings are scheduled to last for 30 minutes each.

At 21.00 Cyprus time the UN chief will have a meeting with both leaders and will later attend a working dinner with the heads of delegations.

UN-facilitated peace talks began in Crans-Montana on June 28 to help find a negotiated settlement that would reunify Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
