A seafarer in need of medical care on board a commercial ship 50 nautical miles offshore Cyprus was transported by helicopter to the Nicosia General Hospital for medical treatment, Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) has said.
JRCC said it received information at 23:00 local time on Wednesday that a crew member on board “Izmail”, a Ukrainian flag ship, 50 nm west of Cyprus, was in need of medical care.
Following the information, the JRCC said it activated the national search and rescue plan “Nearchos” deploying a helicopter of the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit (CPAU) which transported the seafarer in the Nicosia General Hospital.
The operation was concluded at 01:30 local time, JRCC added.
