The involvement of all those countries and especially of the members of the UN Security Council, which can contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem is both welcome and agreeable as well as necessary, the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades said today.
In his remarks to reporters, on the sidelines of the ceremony for the presentation of the bi-communal “Stelios Philanthropic Awards” in Nicosia, the President of the Republic said, in reference to the event, that ” I believe that such events generate the necessary preconditions so that we can achieve, at long last, the bottom-up cooperation, especially among the young people of the two communities, establishing thereby the prospects, through cooperation, of the basic preconditions for the restoration of trust and mutual respect among us as well.”
Asked whether the Security Council should undertake a more active role for the solution of the Cyprus problem, the President said that “I believe that everybody should become active, from the EU – which is already in action.”
He added that “it is an opportunity that is provided for the solution of the second most protracted problem faced by the United Nations. Consequently, the involvement of all those countries and especially of the members of the Security Council, which can contribute is both welcome and agreeable as well as necessary.”
