With troops and guarantees it will be impossible to find a solution, the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, has stated.
In his remarks today to reporters, on the sidelines of his visit to the ‘Elias Papakyriacou’ military camp and asked to comment on statements by the Turkish Cypriot side that without troops and guarantees they won’t engage in discussions for a Cyprus solution, the President of the Republic said: I reverse the position, and I say that with troops and guarantees it will be impossible to find a solution.
In response to another question, the President noted: What we are all interested in is to reach a solution that meets the concerns, the expectations, but also all that has been agreed since 1977, in other words, on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation.
We must all realize that our side needs to exhaust every possibility, having always in mind the basic principles and positions that we are calling for; and the other side, if it desires a solution, must realize that today’s conditions, the status of Cyprus as member state of the European Union, dictate and command that we follow the rules of a Union of states in which we belong.
