Remarks by the President of the Republic

Invited to comment on remarks made today by the Turkish Foreign Minister and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, said tonight that “I hope that Mr Akinci will have the same courage to at last call on the political parties, which support either secession or the pseudostate, and generally the unacceptable positions they project, to at last create a climate that inspires trust to the Greek Cypriot side.”

He added that “patience has its limits and he needs to understand this: I will be there on Thursday. If he desires the solution of the Cyprus problem he must abandon any pretext.

It will be the first time in the history of the negotiations that for a meaningless, minor incident the dialogue will be interrupted. Some people egotistically persist in thinking that they can humiliate the people they are negotiating with.”
