Registered unemployed down annually by 24.1% in April

The number of registered unemployed recorded a significant annual drop of 24.1% in April, official data released on Friday show.

Unemployed people, who registered at the District Labour Offices until the last day of April this year, stood at 24,903.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for April 2018 dropped to 27,404 persons compared to 28,007 in March, the Cyprus Statistical Service says in a press release.

Compared to April 2017, a decrease of 7,901 people or 24.1% was recorded, it adds.

This decrease was mainly observed in the sectors of trade (a drop of 1,425 unemployed), accommodation and food service activities (a drop of 1,253), public administration (a drop of 1,033) and construction (a drop of 1,023).

The number of registered unemployed people also fell in the areas of manufacturing (by 669), financial and insurance activities (by 375) and newcomers in the labour market (by 777).
