Recycling of PMD, paper and glass up in 2018

The total amount of household PMD, paper and glass collected by Green Dot to be recycled increased on an annual basis by 5% in 2018.

According to data recently uploaded in Green Dots website, total household packaging collected in 2018 reached 26,686 tonnes compared to 25,347 tonnes in 2017, recording an increase of 5%.

In particular, 9,603 tonnes of PMD wre collected in 2018 for recycling compared to 8,962 tonnes in 2017, recording an increase of 7%.

The quantity of paper collected came to 10,076 tonnes which remained in the same levels with the previous year.

However, glass recycling was up by 11% with a total of 7,007 tonnes having been collected in 2018 compared to 6,309 tonnes in 2017.

At the same time, commercial and / or industrial packaging recycled in 2018 were in similar levels with the previous year.

According to the Green Dot data, 38,715 tonnes were managed compared to 38,583 tonnes in 2017.

It is further noted that since June 2018 fenced areas for the recycling of glass have started to be established in supermarkets and big stores.

This programme, is expected “to help in further raising the publics awareness on recycling of glass and on reducing the nuissance created when citizens throw their glass waste outside the recycling bins.”

Green Dot has also been supplied with 158 new glass recycling bins and is planning to place extra bins in various areas of the island in 2019.
