Istat said Monday that the prices of over 58% of the 400 goods it monitors to calculate inflation were up by 10% or more in September with respect to the average for 2019.
“More than half of these are groceries,” the national statistics agency said in report presented at a parliamentary hearing on the government’s Nadef economic blueprint.
Istat President Francesco Maria Chelli added that price increases “of no less than 25%” had been registered for over 17% of the goods.
He said that, in 5.2% of cases, the price increases were higher than or equal to 40%.
The prices of only 6.7% of the goods were down.
