Presidential Commissioner participates in Informal EU Council for Ministers of Diaspora in Romania

Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou participates today in the deliberations of the Informal Council of Ministers of the Diaspora of the EU, that takes place in Romania.

A press release by the Presidency says that in an intervention at the Council, Photiou spoke of the importance of diaspora in all EU countries, and the EU itself and noted that each country must adopt programs and initiatives for the learning of the language, history and civilization for those living abroad, especially the new generation, which is the future of the diaspora.

On the sidelines of the Council, Photiou held a series of contacts with Minister of Diaspora of Slovenia Peter J Cesnik, Deputy Foreign Minister for Diaspora of Italy Ricardo Merlo and Commissioner for Diaspora and Minorities of Germany Bernd-Bernhard Fabritius.

He also met with Romanian Minister of Diaspora Natalia-Elena Intotero with whom he discussed issues ahead of her visit to Cyprus in April.

In addition, on the sidelines of the Council, the first meeting of Cyprus, Greece and Romania took place on issues of the diaspora.
