Presidential Commissioner F. Fotiou meets with the AJC President

The Tripartite Cooperation between Cyprus-Greece-Israel on issues of the Diaspora and the impasse in which the Cyprus issue has reached due to the uncompromising stance of Turkey, were the issues that Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou discussed with the president of the American Jewish Organization (AJC), David Harris, in New York.

Fotiou referred to the tragic aspect of the humanitarian issue of Cyprus’ missing persons and pointed out the provocative and illegal actions of Turkey and the occupation regime in the region of Varosha.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Varosha, the fenced off section of the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, is often described as a “ghost town”.

Fotiou and Harris also discussed the cooperation on issues of the Diaspora, that contributes to the strengthening of the already excellent relations between the three countries and is considered crucial for peace, security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Fotiou underlined the contribution of the diaspora organizations of the three countries in strengthening of their strategic relations.

“We discussed actions and initiatives that can be taken by the organizations of the three countries abroad in the context of cooperation on issues of the Diaspora and especially with regard to the new generation, in order to bring them closer, highlighting their history and culture” Fotiou said.
