President sends condolences to German counterpart for Kohl’s death

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has sent a message of condolences to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier for the passing of former Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl.

According to a press release by the Presidency, in his message President Anastasiades stated that I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl, a great statesman and a committed European”.

“As Germany’s longest-serving Chancellor of the 20th century, he will always be remembered for his important role in the reunification of his country in the aftermath of the fall of the ‘Berlin Wall’, as well as for his genuine commitment and significant contribution to the further integration of the European Union and the formation of a shared European currency” he added.

Concluding, the President wrote that “on behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, please allow me to extend my heartfelt sympathy to all the German people, and my sincerest condolences to the family of Helmut Kohl.
