President says Archbishop’s work honours the Church

The multifarious work of Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II honours the institution he represents, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has said, addressing a meeting in Nicosia, on the occasion of 40 years of the Archbishopric in Cyprus.

President Anastasiades said Archbishop Chrysostomos II managed to carry on the tradition of the Church being inextricably linked with the physical and national survival of Cyprus.

He noted that the Archbishop has supported the struggles for the reunification of Cyprus, the return of the refugees to their homes, the determination of the fate of the missing persons, and the restoration of human rights.

The President said Archbishop Chrysostomos II restored the order of the Church, increased the members of the Holy Synod, implemented a new Constitutional Charter of the Church, and founded the Theological School.
