President of Cyprus to pay an official visit to Austria

Migration and the Cyprus issue are among the topics, the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, is expected to discuss in Vienna, during a two-day official visit he is paying to the country, after the invitation of the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen.

According to an announcement by the Presidency of the Republic, President Anastasiades leaves on Tuesday afternoon for Vienna and on 11 March, he will be officially welcomed by the President of Austria for a private meeting at the Presidential Office, to be followed by expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries.

After their talks, the two Presidents will make remarks to the media. The President of the Republic will also attend an official luncheon hosted in his honour by the Austrian President. Moreover, on 12 March, President Anastasiades will meet with the Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz.

During his meetings, President Anastasiades will discuss, among other issues, the latest developments regarding the issue of migration in the European Union, including the increased migration flows in Cyprus, Turkey’s policy on the matter and the situation at the Greek borders with Turkey, which are also EU borders, the announcement says. President Anastasiades will also brief Austrian leaders on the current situation concerning the Cyprus problem, it is added.

The President will be accompanied in Vienna by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides, Government Spokesman Kyriacos Kousios and other officials.
