President expects UN to include Guterres framework, as clarified by the UNSG, in the terms of reference, Spokesman says

The President of the Republic expects the United Nations, and has stressed that to UNSGs envoy Jane Holl Lute, to include in the terms of reference (for the resumption of the Cyprus talks) the exact Guterres framework, i.e the six parameters as suggested by the UN Secretary-General and not as they may be attributed in other texts, notes or versions, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou has said, adding that what must be included in the terms of reference is the exact proposal of Antonio Guterres, as it was finally clarified with his own comments, on the 4th of July 2017.

Government in cooperation with UN on Strovilia tension, says Spokesman

Government authorities are in cooperation with the UN as regards the tension in the Strovilia area, the Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said on Thursday.

Invited to comment on the issue, the Spokesman pointed out that we are handling it in c?ncert with the United Nations, we have no further announcement for the time being.

Meanwhile, the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) spokesperson Aleem Siddique has told CNA that the peacekeeping force is aware that there is tension in the area of Strovilia and is liaising with both sides to reduce it.

Cyprus President to hold important meetings during EU-Arab League Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh

Important bilateral meetings with Heads of States in the region are included in the agenda of President Nicos Anastasiades’ visit to Sharm El-Sheikh in order to participate in the EU-Arab League Summit. President Anastasiades departs for Egypt Sunday and during his presence there he is set to promote Cyprus’ initiative to play a coordinating role in introducing policies and strategies by the countries of the region to tackle climate change. The EU-League of Arab States (LAS) summit will bring together for the first time heads of state or government from both sides.

Senator says US has strong interest in Cyprus reunification

Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, US Senator Roger Wicker has said that the US has a strong interest in the reunification of Cyprus.

Wcker, who is also head of the US delegation, said that the US expect a resumption of the Cyprus talks after the meeting between President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, which will take place next week.

Government Spokesman says there’s no predetermined date for ExxonMobil’s drilling results

Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said Friday that the government did not have a predetermined date for the announcement of ExxonMobil’s drilling results, in block 10 of Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.

The results of the drilling that has started last November are expected to be announced any time soon, according to the initial planning and following the conclusion of exploration at wells Delphine-1 and Glafcos-1.

Harmonized inflation in Cyprus rises to 2.1% for January 2019

In January 2019 the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in Cyprus increased by 2.1% compared to January 2018, while compared to December 2018 the HICP decreased by 0.8%. according to data released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus and the Eurostat. A year earlier it was negative at -1.5%.

Share of energy from renewable sources in transport stands a 7.6% in the EU for 2017, 2.6% in Cyprus

The share of energy from renewable sources used for transport in the European Union (EU) stood at 7.6% in 2017, compared with 3.1 % in 2007.

Although the share has been increasing steadily in recent years across the EU, only two Member States were above the 2020 target share of 10 % in 2017: Sweden (38.6 %) and Finland (18.8 %).
