President briefs National Council members on his recent meetings with Lute

Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will brief on Friday the members of the National Council on his recent meetings in Nicosia with the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy Jane Holl Lute.

The meeting of the National Council under Anastasiades will begin at 1000 local time. Anastasiades is also expected to brief the members of the National Council about the discussion which Greek Premier Alexis Tsipras had with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during their meeting on Tuesday in Ankara. Tsipras and Erdogan discussed among other issues about the Cyprus problem.

In statements on Thursday evening, Anastasiades said that he was going to have a telephone conversation with Tsipras so that the Greek Premier informs him about his meeting with Erdogan.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Jane Holl Lute is currently engaged in an effort with a view to formulate the terms of reference, that will pave the way for the resumption of the negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
