President Anastasiades to inform European Council on Turkey’s actions, measures against rising energy prices, migration

President Anastasiades will brief his counterparts in the European Council on Turkish actions in Varosha and the Cypriot EEZ, on measures taken in Cyprus to counter rising energy prices, as well as on the migratory pressures experienced by Cyprus due to arrivals through Turkey and the occupied areas, according to a statement by government spokesperson Marios Pelekanos ahead of the Council, which takes place on Thursday and Friday.

The government spokesperson further said that President Anastasiades is expected to brief his counterparts on developments regarding the fenced-off area of Varosha, the harassment of a research vessel in the Cypriot EEZ by a Turkish vessel, the Turkish Cypriot leadership’s decision to grand land to the occupying forces, and a more general update on developments on the Cyprus problem.
