President Anastasiades to brief political party leaders on Friday

Parliamentary party leaders will convene on Friday, at 10 am local time (0800 GMT) at the Presidential Palace, under Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, who will brief them on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.

President Anastasiades is expected to brief them about his deliberations with the UNSGs Special Envoy on Cyprus Jane Holl Lute, as well as about the outcome of the talks which the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras is holding on Tuesday in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Tsipras and Erdogan will discuss, inter alia, the Cyprus problem.

Tsipras is expected to brief Anastasiades about the outcome of his meeting with Erdogan.

Lute is currently engaged in an effort to formulate the terms of reference, a development that will pave the way for the resumption of the negotiations on the Cyprus problem.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in the summer of 2017, at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
