President Anastasiades to attend the European Council Meeting

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, will leave on Wednesday October 19, for Brussels, to attend the European Council meeting, according to a press release by the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, Andreas Iosif.

As stated, the Summit will deal with the developments in Ukraine, energy issues, economic issues, as well as the external relations of the Union.

It is noted that, on the sidelines of the Summit, President Anastasiades will have the opportunity to hold meetings with other EU leaders, with whom he will discuss matters of common interest, while he will have the opportunity to inform them of Turkey’s ongoing threats and challenges.

Besides, as mentioned in the same statement, President Anastasiades will receive the Director General of Structural Reforms of the European Commission, Mario Nava, at the Presidential Palace, on Monday, October 17, at 9 am. It is added that, at 8 pm, on the same day, President Anastasiades will attend the charity dinner in support of the Hope For Children organization. The dinner will take place at the Presidential Palace and is under the auspices of the President of the Republic.

On Tuesday, October 18, at 9 am, the President of the Republic will address the Economist Conference, at Hilton Hotel, in Nicosia. As mentioned, in his speech the President is expected to refer to the prospects of the Cypriot economy, the strategy implemented by the Government and the challenges that exist for the future. President Anastasiades’ speech will also include references to the “Cyprus-Tomorrow” Plan.

Furthermore, it is added that on the same day, at 10 am in the morning, the Cabinet will meet at the Presidential Palace, while at 11.30 in the morning, the President will receive in his Office, the member of the European Court of Auditors, Lazaros Lazarou who will submit the annual report to him. Next, the announcement continues, at 11.45 in the morning he will receive, the Minister of Labor of Greece, Kostis Hatzidakis, who will be accompanied by his Cypriot counterpart, Kyriakos Kousios.

It is worth noting that, two weeks ago, Cyprus and Greece signed a cooperation agreement to grant the Ministry of Labor the know-how of the ERGANI II information system and the Digital Labor Card, so that it can be implemented in Cyprus as well.
