President Anastasiades sends letters of condolences to Greek Prime Minister and President

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has sent letters of condolences to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos regarding the deadly fires in Greece, also informing them on decisions taken by the Council of Ministers to support the victims.

In his letters, President Anastasiades says it is with great sorrow that Cyprus is following the tragic developments in Greece and the death toll from the wildfires and sends condolences to the Greek leadership, the people and the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery of the injured and hoping that those missing will be soon found.

He adds that the Cypriot services are in constant contact and coordination with the Greek authorities to provide all possible assistance, and that the government stands ready to contribute to the recovery after the devastation and the relief of the victims.

President Anastasiades informs Tsipras and Pavlopoulos that the Council of Ministers has decided to open a special bank account for contributions, and that the government is depositing Euros 10 million in that account. He adds that the total amount collected will be allocated to specific projects and actions for the relief of the victims and their support, in agreement with the Greek government.

Closing his letters, President Anastasiades assures that Cypriot Hellenism supports and is in solidarity with the Greek people in these trying times.
