President Anastasiades says public projects growth rate has accelerated

There has been lately an acceleration of the growth rate of public investments, Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, said on Friday, receiving, at the Presidential Palace, the annual report of the Tenders Review Authority by its Chairwoman, Efi Papadopoulou.

Papadopoulou assured Anastasiades that “our concern is to secure legality as regards public contracts.” Moreover, he thanked him for the opportunity he has given them to continue their work expressing hope that they have not disappointed him.

She added that during the past years the number of recourses lodged was higher, but now it has dropped. “We had the pandemic and we hope that this was the reason for this reduction and not that that people don’t trust us,” she noted.

Anastasiades said he did not think that the reduction of the number of recourses was due to lack of trust. “They may understand that their tenders do not meet or fulfill the preconditions in the call for tenders,” he added

He warmly thanked and congratulated Papadopoulou for the work being done, adding that “lately there has been an acceleration so that projects move forward, because there have been various delays in some projects, at least in the past, which obstructed the growth rate in public invested that we wanted. However lately there has been an acceleration and this is important”
