President Anastasiades says Cyprus and Slovenia share common vision within EU

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades said on Wednesday that discussions he held with Slovenian President Borut Pahor have unveiled the vision the two countries share for a more social EU.

Addressing the official dinner hosted in his honour by Pahor, in the framework of an official visit to Ljubljana, President Anastasiades said that faith in EU principles and values, and consistency in policies, would create prospects and preconditions for a bright future if united and with a strong sense of solidarity we proceed over the next years.

I look forward to closer cooperation, developing our relations, creating the prospects for better promising days, President Anastasiades said, adding that, just as Slovenia, Cyprus respects international law and European principles and values.

He also expressed hope that Cyprus would be reunified once again.

Concluding his short address, President Anastasiades renewed the invitation extended to Pahor to visit Cyprus the soonest possible.

Speaking through an interpreter, Pahor said both countries were strongly oriented towards Europe and pointed out the role small EU states could play in the future of the Union.

He also referred to the close and friendly ties between Cyprus and Slovenia, adding that they shared a common vision for the prospects opening through the EU.

President Anastasiades wrapped up his official visit to Slovenia on Wednesday evening and returns to Cyprus on Thursday.
