President Anastasiades satisfied with EPP support, met separately with Tsipras and Mitsotakis

The President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, expressed his satisfaction with the strong position of the European Peoples Party on the side of Cyprus. President Anastasiades took part in the summit of leaders of the European Peoples Party ahead of the European Council summit.

The President of the Republic also had a coordination meeting with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras before the first working session of the European Council.

At the same time, Tsipras, expressed the hope that today the European Council “will take two clear decisions on two crucial issues concerning the future of Europe and the future of EU relations with Turkey in the critical region of the Eastern Mediterranean “.

As he said, the first decision should in itself be the blockade of Manfred Weber from the presidency of the Commission. “The second crucial issue in which both I and the Cypriot President will try to obtain clear positions is the clear message that must be given to Turkey, to immediately stop the activities in the EEZ of Cyprus, violating Cypriot sovereignty and European sovereignty as well”, Tsipras said.

“And of course we will look at every possibility, insofar as there is no immediate end to these violations, of the appropriate measures, proper sanctions, because the message must be clear, anyone who violates international law will have consequences”, continued the Prime Minister of Greece.

The President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiadis also had a meeting with the leader of the New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the framework of the European Peoples Party Leaders Meeting.

During the meeting, President Anastasiades briefed Mitsotakis on the latest developments and provocations of Turkey and exchanged views, while he thanked him for his support in the case of Cyprus in the framework of the EPP, and more generally.
