President Anastasiades repeats G/C positions to Boris Johnson

With less than ten hours before the resumption of the Conference on Cyprus at Crans Montana, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades repeated the Greek Cypriot side’s positions ahead of the start of the discussions on security and guarantees.

After a working dinner hosted by the Swiss municipality and the UN, with the participation of the leaders of Cyprus’ two communities, President Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, the Cypriot President met with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

According to CNA reports, the meeting was described as good and took place at the initiative of the British diplomat, President Anastasiades repeated the Greek Cypriot side’s positions to Johnson who also met with Akinci.

After the dinner, Johnson also met with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and then the Greek FM Nicos Kotzias.

At the same time, the sources added that nothing new came out of the working dinner, according to the CNA sources which added that Johnson, will return home early morning. Britain is expected to maintain a presence at the conference but not at the foreign secretary’s level.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader have been engaged in UN-led talks since May 2015 with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
