President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades held today a series of bilateral contacts on the sidelines of the Sibiu Summit in Romania, where he raised the need for the EU to move on to planned measures, instead of just verbal messages against Turkey, which are ignored.
According to government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou, there was a positive response from the partners in the Informal European Council, as well as a universal solidarity with Cyprus, but also a condemnation of Turkeys unlawful actions.
Furthermore the Spokesman said that the President of the Republic had meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italys Prime Minister Tziusepe Conte, Spains Pedro Sanchez and Portugal Antonio Costa.
In addition, he had a meeting and raised the issue of Turkish unlawful interference with both Council President Donald Tusk and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker as well as with High Representative and Vice-President Federica Mogherini.
Before the working lunch of the leaders of the EU Member States, the President of the Republic had a working meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the government spokesman said.
According to CNA senior sources, the meeting with Alexis Tsipras lasted for 20 minutes while the Presidents intervention in the Summit lasted 25 minutes (extremely lengthy for Council standards).
