Pelendritou’s final at Paralympics cancelled

The International Paralympics Committee announced the cancellation of the final in women’s 50 m freestyle S11 at the Tokyo in which earlier Cypriot swimmer Karolina Pelendritou had secured the bronze medal.

In statements to CNA, head of the Cypriot team Efthimios Polydorou, said that according to the International Paralympic Committee (Technical Paralympic Swimming Committee) the final has been cancelled and will be repeated at a time and day to be announced, following an objection from the Dutch Paralympic Committee, whose athlete Bruinsma Liesette won the 4th place. Based on the regulation, the reason for the cancellation will not be announced.

The 34-year old Cypriot swimmer has won gold medals in 100m breaststroke (SB13) in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and gold in the 100m breaststroke (SB12) and bronze in the 200m medley (S12) in Beijing and the bronze medal in the 200 m breaststroke (SB12) in the London Paralympics.
