House President received US Senator Robert Menendez
The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today the US Senator (D-New Jersey), Mr Robert Menendez, who is currently visiting Cyprus for meetings. Mr Menendez was accompanied by the US Ambassador to Nicosia, Mrs Kathleen Ann Doherty, and officials from the US Congress and the US Embassy in Cyprus.
During the meeting, the two interlocutors discussed the current developments vis-A�-vis the Cyprus problem, following the intensification of the UN-led talks for a settlement. Mr Syllouris briefed Senator Menendez on the current phase of the talks, noting the significance attributed by the Greek Cypriot side to the issue of Security. In this framework, the House President underlined that the solution to be reached must ensure the immediate withdrawal of occupation troops and it must put an end to the anachronistic institution of guarantees.
Mr Syllouris also informed Mr Menendez on the work and operation of the House of Representatives.
Lastly, the House President and the US Senator exchanged views on the impending presidential elections in the US, as well as on other international issues of mutual interest.
