It gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to be here with you today for the inauguration of the Oman-Cyprus Business Forum, which is organized in cooperation with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Cyprus. I congratulate all involved in this initiative and I wish to highlight the excellent work of the Ambassador of Oman in Cyprus, Sheikh Ahmed Al Shanfari, who spares no effort in developing our bilateral relations.
The presence of H.E. the State Minister of the Sultanate of Oman and Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority Duqm, Mr. Hahya bin Said bin Abdullah Al-Jabri, coupled with today’s presentation of the investment opportunities in Oman, prove that our excellent relations, both at the governmental and the parliamentary level are expanding, especially in the fields of the economy, investment, trade and tourism. These matters were also among the main issues discussed at the very recent official visit to Cyprus of the President of the Oman Consultative Council, Sheikh Khalid Hilal Al Maawali and his delegation, between 7 and 12 May 2017.
Today’s presentation to Cypriot businessmen and stakeholders of the largest Special Zone in the Middle East, SEDAD, located in Duqm, Oman, by the distinguished speakers of the Forum, will contribute towards establishing investment relations and attracting new associates who, in turn, will expand the activities of Cypriot businesses in the Omani market and at the same time providing a strategic base for a greater share in the region’s promising markets.
Let us not forget that many Cypriot companies have already been active in the Sultanate of Oman for many years now, particularly in the construction sector, thus contributing to the economic and social development of the country, as well as to the enhancement of financial relations between Cyprus and Oman.
Excellency, dear Minister, dear friends from the Sultanate of Oman, the House of Representatives will support in every possible way such initiatives and endeavors, as we strongly believe that, beyond any economic benefits, the development of trade relations brings people closer and contributes to stability and peace, a fact which is of great importance for our fragile and volatile area.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the organizers for their kind invitation and all participants for their interest. I wish today’s Business Forum every success in its deliberations.
